SOCIAL STATIFICATION IN THE SELF-ASSESSMENT OF UZBEKISTAN CITIZENS BASED ON THE RESULTS OF SOCIOLOGICAL SURVEY
Abstract
The article analyzes the results of a survey of the Uzbek public opinion conducted by the ‘Izhtimoiy Fikr’ Republican Public Opinion Study Center. It is concluded that, along with the objectively existing models of stratification of society, subjective stratification is of great importance, reflecting the ideas of individual citizens about what place in society, in relation to its other members, they occupy. Accordingly, while objective indicators of the hierarchy of inequalities primarily reflect particular features of the socio-economic development of the republic, the account of subjective stratification, which reflects the personal perception of people of their social position and the degree of their satisfaction, is important to ensure socio-political stability and assess the legitimacy of the ruling power in the eyes of the population, as well as to predict the behaviour of people in a given situation.
