TUMORS OF THE LOWER JAW AND ITS RECONSTRUCTION AFTER OPERATION
Abstract
Jaw tumors are odontogenic and non-odontogenic. In all these types of tumors, the main treatment method is surgical treatment. Operations of the lower jaw are accompanied by severe cosmetic disorders and facial deformity. Surgery on the the lower jaw consists not only in the radical removal of the tumor, but also in the simultaneous restoration of the continuity of the mandibular arch to prevent possible functional and cosmetic disorders. In this case, the surgeon should solve two different tasks – to remove the tumorcompletely and close the defect as much as possible. The use of simultaneous plastic allows to obtain good functional and cosmetic results for various methods of reconstruction of the lower jaw. This, in turn, allows some patients to return to work, which they did before the onset of the disease. To prevent complications in various methods of reconstructive surgery on tumors of the lower jaw, the effect of radiation therapy and the localization of the tumor on the lower jaw should be taken into account.
