ANALYSIS OF THE INFLUENCE OF CARBIDE PHASES ON WEAR RESISTANCE

FULL TEXT:

Abstract

One of the important tasks globally nowadays is to raise strength of metals and alloys produced by casting, as well as to increase their economic efficiency by improving their mechanical and performance properties. Therefore, groups of scientists are busy making research in sought of obtaining wear resistant materials and improving their desired properties. The article reviews findings from research conducted by scientists, into location of carbides, which are considered as main structural constituents of high chromium white cast iron, and the ways the types of carbide phases released as a result of a crystallization process affect the wear-resistance parameters. The article describes findings from tests held to determine the abrasive- and erosive wear of samples after heat treatment and the effect of the type, shape and location of carbides on the wear characteristics. According to the test findings, the best characteristics are shown by carbide with hexagonal shape M7C3.
